The six changing lines of Hexagram 55

When a casting produces moving lines, their texts speak directly to your situation. Read from the bottom line upward.

  1. Nine at the beginning

When a man meets his destined ruler, they can be together ten days, and it is not a mistake. Going meets with recognition.

When genuine alignment occurs at the height of abundance, extended collaboration is natural and correct. Proceed — recognition follows.

  2. Six in the second place

The curtain is of such fullness that the polar stars can be seen at noon. Through going one meets with mistrust and hate. If one rouses him through truth, good fortune comes.

The eclipse of clarity by excessive fullness creates suspicion. Only transparent sincerity can restore the trust obscured by circumstances of overwhelming abundance.

  3. Nine in the third place

The underbrush is of such abundance that the small stars can be seen at noon. He breaks his right arm. No blame.

When obscurity is complete, one loses the capacity for effective action. This is not personal failure but the nature of the moment; there is no blame for what cannot be done.

  4. Nine in the fourth place

The curtain is of such fullness that the polar stars can be seen at noon. He meets his ruler, who is of like kind. Good fortune.

Even in obscured times, finding the one who shares one's vision is fortunate. Like recognises like even in the dark.

  5. Six in the fifth place

Lines are coming, blessing and fame draw near. Good fortune.

At the peak of abundance, those of excellence approach of their own accord and bring honour with them. The height of good fortune attracts further good.

  6. Six at the top

His house is in a state of abundance. He screens off his family. He peers through the gate and no longer perceives anyone there. For three years he sees nothing. Misfortune.

Hoarding abundance behind walls of self-imposed isolation leads to complete estrangement. What was once full becomes completely empty through the refusal of connection.
